No. Thankfully all that is required are the vaccinations that are advised for life in the UK.
The NHS does recommend that you have/ are up to date with Hepatitis A; Tetanus; and Typhoid although these are not compulsory.
Of course, if you are still unsure you should phone your GP and for more information you should check out the NHS website below.
No. The travel agents have generally advised staying in the same hotel for ease etc, but if you need to stay somewhere else that isn't a problem. Just please remember that Mexico is a very big country so you will need to find a hotel that is very close.
It may help to note that our hotel is 1 of 3 on a large complex and is situated on the beach. One of the other hotels on the complex is adults only but both may be slightly cheaper than our hotel.
With that in mind the wonderful thing about the 3 hotels belonging to the same complex is that regardless of which hotel you are in, you can travel and use any of the facilities of the other two hotels. There are also shuttles that travel between the three hotels that are free to use.
My sister Kirsty is seven years younger than me so it probably won't come as a surprise to hear we fought as kids. I begged my mom for a baby brother or sister but after she arrived I quickly asked how we could return her.
For many years, she has been my shadow, copying me as only younger siblings can. I always wanted to hang out with my friends whilst she always tried to 'tag along' and be twins, we even had matching t-shirts. Fortunately, now we have matured (a little bit, just don’t ask mom) and she has become one of my closest friends.
I admire the woman she has become and I am honoured she has accepted the role of Chief Bridesmaid. I don't think I could do this all without her. She really is amazing!
I love you Ben x
Although today Jolene is one of my closest friends, there was a time when we hated each other. We met when we were put in the same class at Dame Elizabeth Cadbury Secondary School and although we were in the same small group of friends we rarely got on. Both of us for some reason, that we cannot fathom now, fought to be ‘Best Friends’ with another girl in our group. If you would have told 13-year-old me that this beautiful lady would be my Maid of Honour I would have thought you were losing it. But thankfully we bonded on a Skiing trip to Italy and our friendship has gone from strength to strength.
Although we can go for weeks without a good chat, this lady is there for me at the drop of a hat. Jolene is the best kind of friend, she knows all my deepest secrets and still loves me. She also isn’t afraid to tell me things as they are, even if it’s not something I want to hear. We know each other’s embarrassing stories (for some good ones ask about Dr Pepper, Orange Juice or Bushes) and I can’t wait to share many more with her.
I cannot imagine getting married without Jolene by my side, and am so thankful to have her in my life. You have been my best friend for a long time Salmon Girl, and I hope you are for many more!
Love you JoJo Baggins X
I put my foot down with Gusher
Xel-Ha ("Where the water is born" Ancient Mayan) is a natural Eco-park, that has so much to do and see.
This park is the top of our excursions list! Here you can snorkel and float along in the Lazy rivers or swim with Sea Turtles, Sting Rays and Dolphins whilst monkeys swing in the treetops above.
One at the top of Pauls list. I think he's hoping for a second stag night aboard these ships...
After climbing aboard a Pirate ship you will be served Steak & Lobster (if this is what you want) and will be encouraged to drink your fill like a true pirate. Later in the night your ship will be attacked ...
We will be getting married at the Luxury Bahia Principe Akumal hotel in Mexico on our 10 Year anniversary. The ceremony will take place on a private beach, and will be followed by a Reception Dinner that will also take place on the beach. If you have received an invitation, you can click on the RSVP button above to let us know if you are able to attend.
We know travelling to Mexico is a big ask, and if you are unable to make it, we truly understand and hope that you will still join us at our 'Post Destination Reception'.
Currently we have no information about this.
Although we have been together for 9 years, we have known each other for a lot longer. We first met in September 2001, both nervous eleven year olds starting at Dame Elizabeth Cadbury secondary school. We didn't speak much during those years so neither of us could have pictured where we would be 16 years later.
Although a certain someone fancied the other (we’ll leave you to guess who) it wasn’t until we were 18 that anything happened. After meeting up again and several months of dating I finally asked Paul if we were officially a couple. We both agreed and from there we have tested our relationship with distance and our fair share of problems.
Like soppy teenagers (which we were) we broke our hearts a little every time we had to say goodbye as Paul drove the 130 miles back to Birmingham when I lived in Aberystwyth. We joined forces against evil housemates, and are even fighting the great battle of parenthood, we like to think we are winning.
Our first ‘baby’ came along in 2010 with big brown eyes, great black paws, and a soppy wet tongue. Callie was the greatest test dummy for a human baby, she needed constant love and care, and like a child her fair share of toys to play with (tear apart and kill). Then came Ellie Rita Watkins, a beautiful bundle of joy and pooey nappies (seriously kid eats too much veg). Ellie tested our boundaries like the cheeky monkey she is, but she also showed us what it means to love so unconditionally. She has become the brightest star in our universe and reminds us of the important things in life.
Our little family shows how great our love story has become. We are so proud to share in each other’s challenges and victories. In 2015, we even crossed the continents and climbed Mt Kilimanjaro to raise money for other beautiful children. Which apparently wasn’t the biggest hurdle Paul had to face that year ….*ahem* turn to the next page.
I was born in 1989 and have lived in Birmingham for most of my life. Although I would love to someday live in America, here is where my heart is, with my family. My Dad, Andy works as a Combustion Engineer and my mom, Sue, is an Auxiliary Nurse at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. They have been my greatest role models in life, and I love them both dearly. I am also the oldest of four siblings, with one sister, Kirsty, and two brothers, George, and Alex.
Those who know me know that I relate to Belle or Hermione, I'm a true bibliophile, like them I always have my nose stuck in a book, or Kindle these days. I have also found quite recently that I love to sew and after playing around making outfits I began my own sewing business. I get a great sense of pride sending out my creations which have travelled so much further than I have.
However as much as I love to sew, my greatest passion in life has always been teaching and (although it's become a bit of a running joke) I am looking forward to graduating this year so that I can then progress to my PGCE, and start working with the future brilliant minds. I started my university 'career' at Aberystwyth University in 2008 before restarting at Newman University so that I could be closer to family. Life found its way of throwing curveballs at us though me and Paul were thrilled to find we were going to be parents in 2012.
Being a mom to such a passionate and spirited little girl is the greatest gift life has ever given me although marrying the man of my dreams will be a close second. I love my little family so much and cannot wait to be a Watkins too!
We've booked the hotel for the wedding ceremony and the reception...EEEK!
We are now just waiting to hear confirmation of our chosen wedding date.
